Me, as a superhero

Chris has moved on from chess, and has found a new pastime. Creating superheros....

He spent like an hour doing it on Saturday night. And here are the results of me as superhero.

Notice my superhero name is ERIKA spelled backwards; no evil villain would be able to penetrate such a fortress of security and discover my true identity. Also, why do I only have on one boot?

School's out!

Well, this school year is over. I never knew a calendar could dictate my emotions so strongly until I became a teacher (and I am not even a real teacher--you guys must feel really great).

Reflecting over this past school year...

Number of schools I have taught at: feels like 1 million, but probably like twenty or so.

Number schools where I have really actually taught my own classes: 2-one high school, one junior high

Number of times I have cried: like 20 (never at school--sometimes tears of joy, sometimes otherwise)

Number of times I have been asked for my phone number: at least 5

Number of times I have been told a student has a crush on me: 2 (both really awkward, just try to brush it off)

Number of times I have been asked my age: like a hundred. Apparently, I look twelve.

Number of times I have wished I was not a teacher and seriously questioned my abilities: 1,000

Number of times I have prayed and hoped to get a job because I love teaching: 1,001

Discouragement

I am really starting to get discouraged by the lack of jobs available for next year. Also, I am discouraged by the fact that the only school that even bothered to call me for an interview was the one school where I had a snowball's chance in hell of getting the job (they had basically already promised it to their intern, which I knew going in). Is there something wrong with me? I have a degree, and I think I am a pretty rocking teacher--and my students would agree. :)

This is the part where I need you all to tell me not to worry, and that I am awesome.

This Weekend...

...My little brother graduated from high school! I am so proud of the not-so-little guy. He graduated with his Associate's Degree. The only complaint I have is that his graduation was at 7:00 at night-who's idea was that?- in the roasting Provo Tabernacle, and the speaker was capital "B" boring.

...I went to Kara's baby shower. I was surprised when I realized that this was my first baby shower..I am not very popular with the soon-to-be moms apparently. It was so fun to see Kara again, and she looks so cute!

...We went to my parent's for Memorial Day. We had a wonderful time stuffing our faces, playing a rousing game of croquet (obviously this buxom brunette is myself), schooling my family at Disney Scene it, and playing with our niece Emily until she was probably glad to see us go. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of her, but I assure you she is precious.

...And MOST importantly...drumroll please....WE BOUGHT A NEW COUCH!! This may seem like minor news to some of you, if so, you have never been to my house or met my husband. He loves all things seventies/floral, so buying something new and good-looking is a big step. Of course, we couldn't just get rid of the old couch (well, I could have burned the thing) so it is now on the front porch. Tacky, but it is nice to be able to sit out there in the evenings.

Early Out

I got to work today to find out that because the girl's softball team won their game yesterday, school is getting out at noon! And to top it off, I am getting paid extra because I have to teach an extra class. And, it is a three day weekend.

I love the end of the school year!

And....we aren't going camping this weekend. :)

Moab

After graduation, we went down to Moab with a couple of friends. The first day was pretty good, except for the fact that we went hiking for about four hours and Chris' idea of packing food is Cliff bars. I would rather eat sandpaper. When we finally got back to camp and set up it was dark, and the wind was raging. Between the howling wind making it almost impossible to sleep, and the fact that I had to get up twice in the middle of the night to pee (popping a squat in the middle of the night is not so nice) I was getting over camping real quick. After my second trip to the bathroom where I managed to pee all over my pant leg, I announced to Chris that we are never going camping again. Lo and behold, we are going camping this weekend. I have no control.

Graduation

In like January I had the audacity to mention to my Mother that I did not think I would walk. Seeing as how I graduated in December, I didn't think it would be that big of a deal. Guess again. I was told I would be walking. Which actually turned out nicely, because it was an excellent excuse to take two days off of work. And, someday I can show my children proof that I graduated from college.

I think this picture pretty much sums up our relationship. Love it.

Has arrived in the Herman household.

Much Better

Chris and I are feeling much better, in case anyone cares. Which means I can no longer use my sickness as an excuse not to work out. Dang.

Also, it happens to be my last day at Dixon Middle and I think I hear the Hallelujah chorus playing somewhere in the background. I think middle schoolers should be shipped off to some foreign land to be taught and not allowed back until they are like sixteen. Just kidding (sort of). It has been fun, but I am definitely excited for it to be over. I enjoyed teaching high school much better.

In other news, the LOST finale was in a single word: AMAZING. Any of you who know Chris and I well, know that LOST is something of a religion at our house. If you don't watch it I highly recommend you take this summer to catch up on all its glory.

Peace out.

I feel like poop

That was the contents of the text message I just sent Chris. He replied "I feel worse." He is probably right. After spending a wonderful four-day weekend with his family, we are both now sick. And back at work, which makes me feel sick all on its own.

I woke up at like three this morning and rolled over to find Chris lying in bed with one of my giant mixing bowls on his stomach. At first I thought he had been sleepwalking or something. Then he told me it was his barf bowl because he had food poisoning from Panda Express and had already thrown up four times (not in the bowl, thank goodness). I had woken up because I couldn't breathe and my throat was raw. Great.

So here we are, a couple of sickos at work. Boo hoo.

P.S. Our internet stopped working (surprise, surprise) but I will update stuff as soon as I can.
